Hue City completes DNA sampling at 42 martyr cemeteries

Hue City has completed biological sample collection for DNA testing at all 42 martyr cemeteries within its jurisdiction. This achievement was reached in nearly three months, surpassing the eight-month deadline set by the National Steering Committee and the six-month deadline set by Military Region 4.

As part of the ‘500-day campaign’ to search for, collect, and identify the remains of martyrs, authorities have collected 3,908 biological samples from 7,282 unidentified graves, representing 53.4% of the total. To date, 2,853 samples have been handed over to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for DNA analysis and comparison. The remaining samples are expected to be transferred by August 20.

The operation involved hundreds of officers, soldiers, and militia members working through harsh weather conditions to ensure all samples were collected before the rainy and storm season. The project aims to provide a scientific basis for identifying unnamed martyrs.
