Hue City cracks down on online World Cup betting

On 10 June, the Hue City People’s Committee Vice Chairman Trần Hữu Thùy Giang signed a decision directing heads of all city departments, agencies and commune‑level administrations to intensify prevention of gambling and online football‑match betting during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The order threatens severe disciplinary action for any civil servant, public employee or worker who participates in betting.

The city also ordered police to step up security and public‑information campaigns, banks in the region to monitor and block suspicious money transfers linked to gambling, and the Department of Personnel to investigate, discipline and, if necessary, prosecute officials involved. The measures target internet‑based football‑match fixing and related illegal gambling activities throughout the tournament period.
