Huejutla de Reyes to host Indigenous Peoples Festival in August

Huejutla de Reyes, Hidalgo, will host the Festival de Pueblos Originarios Tlajtoli 2026 from 7 to 9 August, coinciding with the 31st International Day of Indigenous Peoples. The three‑level government event brings together representatives from Hidalgo, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, Querétaro and Tamaulipas to showcase the Huasteca region’s cultural heritage.

The programme includes ceremonies, conferences, music, dance, traditional medicine, gastronomy and an artisan pavilion, with 350 artisans, 50 traditional cooks, 130 traditional physicians, 15 musical trios and 150 dancers scheduled to perform. A special tribute on 9 August will honour more than 1,500 traditional midwives from the state.

State Culture Secretary Neyda Naranjo Baltazar highlighted the festival’s focus on “word, root and memory,” while municipal president José Alfredo San Román Duval stressed the intergovernmental coordination that made the event possible. Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar’s administration underscored the importance of strengthening indigenous identity and participation through the festival.
