Huelva advances European industrial revolution with green energy projects
The European industrial landscape is undergoing significant shifts driven by monetary policy and new green energy initiatives. The European Central Bank has raised its three official interest rates by 25 basis points, setting the deposit facility rate at 2.50% due to inflationary pressures linked to conflicts in the Middle East. Despite this, the ECB anticipates European economic resilience with a projected growth of 0.9% in 2026.
In Huelva, Spain, major industrial milestones are signaling a move toward a circular and decarbonized economy. Atlantic Copper is inaugurating its CirCular plant, a €550 million project funded by Freeport designed to recover precious metals like copper, gold, and silver from recycled electronic waste. Simultaneously, Moeve is breaking ground on the Onuba project, a key component of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. These developments aim to reduce Europe's external dependencies and replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources.
