Huelva approves major waste management and cleaning contract

The Huelva Local Government Board has approved a major new contract for waste collection, street cleaning, and green area maintenance. Described by Mayor Pilar Miranda as the largest cleaning contract in the city's history, the tender has a base budget of approximately 321.5 million euros including VAT over ten years.

To ensure service quality, the contract includes a strict penalty regime linked to a Global Quality Index for each service area. If quality scores fall below 66 points, the city will deduct between 1% and 8% from the monthly fee. A score below 25 points could lead to contract termination. Specific penalties include 10,000 euros for mixing different types of waste or incorrect disposal, and 1,000 euros for weekly occurrences of overflowing containers.
