Huelva begins receiving 687 plants for autumn urban reforestation

The Huelva City Council has begun receiving a new supply of plant species to support its municipal autumn planting campaign. The shipment includes 687 plants: 80 palms (30 date palms and 50 Washingtonia), 242 trees, and 365 shrubs.

This initiative is part of the ‘Huelva, Green Capital of Southern Europe’ strategy, aiming to increase the city's vegetation mass and replace trees lost to aging, pests, or biomechanical issues. The trees, which include acacia, orange, and ligustrum, will be distributed across various neighborhoods, including Zafra and the city center, to restore tree lines and provide shade. The shrubs will primarily be used to restore planters and flowerbeds in Paseo Independencia following recent public lighting renovations.

Mariló Ponce, Councilor for Infrastructure and Public Services, stated that the acquisition is part of continuous planning to create a healthier and more livable urban environment. The plants will remain in the municipal nursery until autumn, which is considered the optimal season for root establishment and development.
