Huelva court sentences man to two years for biting off bystander's finger

The Provincial Court of Huelva has sentenced a man to two years in prison for biting off part of a man's finger during an altercation in Rosal de la Frontera. The incident occurred on December 31, 2023, when the defendant was involved in a dispute with a third party. A bystander intervened to separate the combatants by holding the defendant from behind, at which point the defendant bit the man's right index finger with the intent to cause physical harm.

The attack resulted in the amputation of the first phalanx of the victim's finger, requiring surgical intervention and causing permanent damage, including functional limitations and aesthetic impairment. The court ordered a total compensation of 30,200 euros for the injuries and sequels. Having already deposited 15,000 euros, the defendant must pay the remaining 15,200 euros in monthly installments.

Due to a lack of prior criminal records and the application of mitigating circumstances—specifically late confession and undue delays—the prison sentence will be suspended for three years, provided the defendant does not reoffend and completes the required payments.
