Huelva faces shortage of special education specialists

The Central Sindical Independiente y de Funcionarios (CSIF) has issued a warning regarding the insufficient resources available to support students with Specific Educational Support Needs (NEAE) in Huelva for the 2026-2027 school year.

Data indicates that the NEAE student population has grown by 44.5% over the last 15 years, whereas structural positions for specialists in Therapeutic Pedagogy (PT), Hearing and Language (AL), and Orientation have only increased by 21.5%. This disparity has led to increased workloads and difficulties in providing individualized attention. CSIF reports that many specialists must split their working hours across multiple educational centers.

Additionally, the union noted that while public enrollment in Huelva has seen slight growth, the province has lost 5.6% of its Infant and Primary education units since the 2009-2010 academic year. Regarding Vocational Training (FP), the union highlighted that the public share in Huelva has decreased by 4.3 points over 15 years, despite currently accounting for 81.5% of the total. CSIF is calling for increased investment, higher staffing levels, and the establishment of maximum student-to-professional ratios.
