Huelva heritage protection rules face criticism from PSOE

The Socialist Party in Huelva has accused the municipal government led by PP mayor Pilar Miranda of hastily weakening the city’s historic‑building protection regulations. Party secretary Enrique Gaviño says the amendment to the catalogue of protected sites was approved without expert input or public participation, despite missing mandatory environmental reports. He warns the changes could allow interior clear‑outs, increased building volume, reconstructions or even limited demolitions of landmarks such as Casa Díaz Hierro, the former train station, the railway college, the former post office, Villa Rosa, the old provincial prison, the León Ortega art school and the Barrio Obrero. The PSOE calls for the reform to be delayed until the new municipal development plan is prepared with broader consultation.
