Huelva honors archivist Remedios Rey de las Peñas
The Huelva Provincial Council and the Ibero-American Academy of La Rábida held a memorial service to honor Remedios Rey de las Peñas one year after her death. Rey de las Peñas was the former director of the Provincial Archive and the first woman to join the Ibero-American Academy of La Rábida.
During the tribute, officials highlighted her four decades of work dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of Huelva's documentary heritage. She was noted for her efforts to organize municipal archives, advocate for professional staffing and resources, and implement digitalization and new technologies to facilitate public access to historical documents.
Her influence also extended to international professional training. Through La Rábida, she promoted document management and archival administration programs for professionals from various Ibero-American countries. The ceremony included tributes from family, colleagues, and video messages from former students currently residing in Mexico.
