Huelva hosts exhibition celebrating centenary of artist José Guevara
The Sala de la Provincia of the Diputación de Huelva has opened the exhibition ‘Guevara. Cien años, un nuevo universo’ to commemorate the centenary of the birth of artist José Guevara. The exhibition explores the life and work of the Puebla de Guzmán native, who is recognized as one of the most internationally prominent visual artists from the Huelva province.
Guevara’s career included participation in major art biennials and international exhibitions, including a 1962 showing in Australia and becoming the first Spaniard to have a solo exhibition in Iraq. Despite his global reach, the exhibition highlights his deep connection to his roots in Huelva and Puebla de Guzmán.
The inauguration was attended by the President of the Diputación, David Toscano, Guevara’s family, and various curators. The event is part of the ‘Año Guevara’ program, which includes conferences, round tables, and theatrical activities to celebrate his creative legacy.
