Huelva leads Andalusia in biomass electricity generation

Huelva has become the leading province in Andalusia for biomass electricity generation, accounting for 50% of the region's total biomass capacity. The province hosts 137 MW of installed capacity across three plants located within the ENCE industrial complex, capable of producing over 800 million kWh annually.

As of June 30, 2026, Huelva's total renewable power generation reached 1,692.2 MW, representing 8.7% of Andalusia's total renewable capacity. This growth has been largely driven by solar photovoltaic energy, which increased from 124.9 MW in 2019 to 1,080.2 MW, making up 7.8% of the region's total photovoltaic capacity.

Other notable renewable assets in the province include 456.7 MW of wind power distributed across 14 parks and a unique ocean thermal energy facility in Palos de la Frontera. This 4.5 MW plant is the only one in Andalusia utilizing residual energy from natural gas vaporization to generate electricity via temperature differentials with the Atlantic Ocean.
