Huelva Port to Spend €14.3 million on Maintenance Dredging

The Port Authority of Huelva in Spain has launched a tender for maintenance dredging of its inner waters, allocating a budget of €11.8 million (net of VAT) within an overall investment of €14.3 million. The contract, expected to run for 32 months, aims to keep navigation channels clear after ongoing sedimentation caused by the Tinto and Odiel rivers, which transport large amounts of suspended material and sand, especially during high flows.

The dredging work will cover the port’s navigation canal, roughly 15 km long and divided into twelve zones, to preserve required draughts for larger vessels and support existing and planned port infrastructure.

Bids are accepted until 30 September, with the project intended to mitigate the “systematic siltation” that threatens channel access despite the presence of the Juan Carlos I sand‑containment dam completed in 1981.
