Huelva PP demands more security resources to combat drug trafficking

The People's Party (PP) of Huelva has submitted a package of measures to the Spanish Congress of Deputies to combat rising drug trafficking along the province's coastline. PP provincial president Manuel Andrés González criticized the central government for a perceived lack of security and resource reductions within state security forces.

A primary demand is the reinstatement of the OCON-SUR unit, which the party describes as having been an effective tool against drug networks before its dissolution. Additionally, the party is seeking the official recognition of the profession as a high-risk occupation for both the Guardia Civil and the National Police.

Data provided by the PP highlights staffing shortages in the region: the Guardia Civil currently has 1,396 positions filled out of a catalog of 1,531, while the National Police has 403 operational agents out of 424 available positions. The proposed initiatives also include increasing personnel in high-pressure criminal areas and strengthening international cooperation with Portugal and other European partners.
