Huelva prison staff face frequent assaults amid security concerns
The Partido Popular (PP) has denounced the recurring assaults against staff at the Huelva Penitentiary Center, accusing the government of Pedro Sánchez of eight years of neglect. Bella Verano, the PP's sector coordinator in Huelva, stated that prison officials lack sufficient personnel, resources, and security measures.
Verano highlighted that the specific protocol for responding to assaults is ‘completely obsolete’ and that requests for its modification have gone unanswered. She also criticized the government for failing to recognize prison officials as agents of authority by the end of the legislature. Recent incidents, including a large-scale fight and a cell fire caused by an inmate on September 29, were cited as evidence of the deteriorating security situation.
The PP maintains that it has submitted numerous initiatives to Congress regarding the Huelva prison that have remained unaddressed. The party pledged to provide the necessary professionals, material resources, and health services to the facility if they return to power.
