Huelva restores historical carriage entrance in Barrio Obrero
The Huelva City Council is entering the final stages of a project to restore a historical carriage entrance in the Barrio Reina Victoria, specifically within the Barrio Obrero district. The initiative, carried out at the request of local residents, involves creating a replica of the original brick pilasters that once formed a historic access point lost to urban growth.
Mayor Pilar Miranda and the president of the Barrio Obrero Neighborhood Association, Manuel Domínguez Minchón, inspected the progress of the works. The project aims to enhance the area, which is designated as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) and represents the city’s British legacy. In addition to the architectural replica, the intervention includes the creation of green spaces and new urban furniture.
The works are expected to be completed before the British Legacy Fair at the end of October. The new entrance will feature brickwork designed to emulate the original style, with one pilaster including an artisanal tile to mark the date of execution.
