Renfe expands summer train capacity in Catalonia and Asturias‑Madrid routes

Renfe will make roughly 4.7 million seats available in Catalonia for the summer season (30 June – 15 September), covering AVE, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity, Avant, Media Distancia and International services. The company will also continue the Verano Joven programme, offering 50 % discounts on AVE, Avlo and long‑distance trains for passengers aged 18‑30, plus deeper cuts on Avant and Media Distancia.

For the Asturias‑Madrid corridor, Renfe adds a new Sunday AVE service between Gijón and Madrid in July and August, scheduled to leave Gijón at 19:53 and providing about 500 extra seats. Monday services are also adjusted: the early‑morning Madrid‑Gijón AVE will depart at 07:10, replacing the former Alvia, and the Alvia Madrid‑Avilés will run in double‑composition to increase capacity. The midday Gijón‑Madrid AVE (train 4110) will now leave at 12:08. These changes aim to offset capacity reductions caused by high‑speed works in Cantabria and Palencia.
