Huerta de Rey holds record for unusual resident names
The municipality of Huerta de Rey in the province of Burgos is recognized for its unique tradition of highly unusual resident names. To avoid confusion in the Civil Registry during the late 19th century, inhabitants utilized rare names and ancient saint calendars. This has resulted in a Guinness World Record for the most unusual names in a single location, featuring names such as Evilasio, Gláfida, Hierónides, Filogonio, Sindulfo, and Alpidia.
The town, which has approximately 900 inhabitants, even hosts a ‘National Meeting of Rare Names’. Additionally, the nearby archaeological site of Clunia Sulpicia, once a major Roman city in Hispania, is located just 15 kilometers from the village.
