HUG employee dismissed for YouTube use and paid fortune-telling

An employee of the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) has been dismissed following an audit that revealed extensive workplace misconduct. Between January last year and January this year, the individual reportedly spent over 80% of working hours watching YouTube on a work computer.

The employee also used a large portal site to operate a paid fortune-telling (Saju) consultation service under another person's name, earning more than 3 million won during work hours. Additional violations included unauthorized absence from the workplace and the fraudulent receipt of compensatory leave while using the company gym.

HUG decided to terminate the employee due to the long-term, complex nature of the misconduct and the fundamental breach of trust. This follows a separate incident in January where a managing director was dismissed after being referred to the prosecution for sexual harassment charges.
