Hugh Jackman stars in dark new film “The Death of Robin Hood”

Michael Sarnoski’s film The Death of Robin Hood reimagines the legendary outlaw as a brutal, morally ambiguous figure. Hugh Jackman plays a scarred Robin in 1247 AD on the Celtic fringe, confronting savage violence and a relentless quest for vengeance. Bill Skarsgård appears as Little John, now a hardened ally who draws Robin back into conflict, while Jodie Comer portrays Sister Brigid, a compassionate nun who shelters a wounded Robin at a remote priory. The cast also includes Murray Bartlett as a leper and Faith Delaney as the mute child Little Margaret.

The movie’s visual style is grim and cold, with stark widescreen compositions that emphasize the harsh landscape before shifting to warmer tones in the abbey scenes. The narrative follows Robin’s descent into bloodshed and his eventual search for redemption under Sister Brigid’s care. The film opened in U.S. theatres on 19 June, with a UK and Ireland release scheduled for 2 September.
