Hugh Jackman's Robin Hood flop and upcoming Treasure Island casting

The new Robin Hood film starring Hugh Jackman, directed by Michael Sarnoski, premiered on 19 June but has grossed only $2.9 million worldwide against a $20 million budget, far below expectations and far behind contemporaneous releases such as Toy Story 5. The movie, marketed as a gritty, character‑driven take on the legend, also features Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård and others.

Jackman is now slated to portray Long John Silver in a forthcoming adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. He said he has not read the novel and will rely on a script by Jack Thorne, with Ridley Scott attached to direct. Production is unofficially planned for a 2028 release, pending further development.

Both projects illustrate Jackman's shift toward darker, revisionist roles after recent work in The Death of Robin Hood.
