Hughes wins American Pharoah Stakes to remain undefeated
Hughes maintained his undefeated record with a dominant six-length victory in the Grade 1, $300,000 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita Park. The two-year-old colt, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by jockey Juan Hernandez, successfully navigated his first two-turn race, stalking the leaders before launching a three-wide bid on the far turn to seize control.
With this win, Hughes has secured a fees-paid berth in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile, scheduled for October 30 at Keeneland. The victory also earned him 10 points toward the 2027 Kentucky Derby. Hughes, a son of Into Mischief, improves to a lifetime record of 4-4-0-0.
