Hughes wins Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to remain undefeated

The unbeaten two-year-old colt Hughes secured a 2 1/4-length victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland. Ridden by jockey Flavien Prat and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, the colt overcame pressure from a field of eight to maintain a perfect record, establishing himself as an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby.

American History, trained by Todd Pletcher, finished second by a head, while Salahudin, also trained by Baffert, took third. The win marks the fifth victory in five starts for Hughes, who is named after U.S. Olympic hockey player Jack Hughes.

The event took place during the first day of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. During the day's racing, jockey Jose Ortiz was briefly under medical observation following a spill in an earlier race but was cleared to continue.
