Hugo Boss appoints Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray as chairman

Michael Murray, the CEO of Frasers Group, has been appointed as the new chairman of the supervisory board at Hugo Boss. Murray, who has been a board member since May 2025, succeeds Stephan Sturm, who resigned following a period of tension between the fashion company and its major shareholder.

Frasers Group has been steadily increasing its stake in the German fashion brand since 2020, recently reaching nearly 48% ownership. This leadership change follows a failed takeover attempt by Frasers Group, which offered approximately 1.98 billion euro to acquire the remaining shares. While Hugo Boss management previously rejected the offer as “inadequate from a financial point of view,” Frasers Group continues to signal ambitions for majority control.

Murray stated his intention to focus on “unlocking the full potential of Hugo Boss and creating sustainable value for all shareholders and stakeholders.” Meanwhile, the company is expected to appoint auditor Robert Palmer to the supervisory board to fill the vacancy left by Sturm.
