Hugo Javier González Alegre shows signs of recovery after prison injury
Hugo Javier González Alegre, the former governor of Central, is showing signs of neurological improvement two weeks after being found with severe hematomas in his cell at La Esperanza prison. Dr. Miguel Ferreira, director of the Hospital Nacional de Itauguá, reported that González is stable with normal vital signs, though he remains dependent on a tracheotomy and a feeding tube.
Medical staff noted that while the former official cannot currently speak, he is responsive to verbal commands and can communicate through lip reading. He has reportedly expressed a desire to listen to music and has shown positive neurological signs, such as moving his limbs and following visual cues.
In a related development regarding the circumstances of his injuries, Luis Giménez, the only cellmate present during the incident on September 6, testified to prosecutors that González suffered an accidental fall. Giménez denied any physical assault by third parties but admitted to cleaning the scene under the instruction of prison officials before investigators arrived.
