Hugo Javier González shows neurological progress during recovery

Former Central Department Governor Hugo Javier González is showing signs of progressive neurological recovery while hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Hospital Nacional de Itauguá. Medical professionals report that while his clinical and laboratory parameters are positive, he is currently in a “plateau state” regarding neurological and cognitive recovery.

Dr. José Espínola Orrego, director of the hospital, noted that the patient is awake, can follow simple commands, and has begun to conjugate sentences rather than just speaking isolated words. However, González continues to experience amnesia, delirium, and disorientation in time and space. He also suffers from auditory and visual hallucinations, which doctors attribute to severe traumatic brain injury, meningitis, and the effects of prolonged sedation and induced coma.

Richard Escobar, head of the Intensive Care Unit, stated that the patient is stable and shows no signs of active infection. Due to his current cognitive state, González is not yet able to provide coherent statements to authorities. Medical updates are being provided daily to the Public Ministry and the Ministry of Justice. Doctors suggest that recovery from such conditions can take several weeks or up to 90 days.
