Hugo Javier González shows recovery progress after brain injury
Former Central Department Governor Hugo Javier González is showing significant signs of recovery following a severe traumatic brain injury and subsequent bacterial meningitis. Dr. Miguel Ferreira, director of the Hospital Nacional de Itauguá, reported that González has made a major neurological breakthrough by consuming solid food, specifically a cup of flan, independently without the use of a feeding tube.
Medical staff noted that the patient is responding to simple commands, moving all four limbs, and demonstrating improved communication skills. While he previously required mechanical respiratory assistance, he is now breathing on his own via a tracheostomy cannula with minimal supplemental oxygen.
Future rehabilitation will focus on physical therapy to regain muscle strength and coordination. Doctors plan to progressively advance his oral diet, potentially moving to vegetable soup, as he continues to stabilize.
