Hugo Javier González shows signs of improvement amid severe brain injury

Former Central Department Governor Hugo Javier González Alegre is showing signs of clinical improvement while remaining in intensive care at the Hospital Nacional de Itauguá. Medical staff report that González has begun moving his arms, attempting to open his eyes, and has successfully performed intermittent spontaneous breathing following a tracheotomy.

Despite these positive signs, doctors emphasize a serious neurological prognosis. He is suffering from grade 3 axonal damage, a severe traumatic brain injury that can result in a very slow recovery process. Dr. Richard Escobar Decoud noted that while his vital signs and hemodynamic status are stable, the neurological damage is the primary obstacle to independent breathing.

In a separate security incident at the hospital, a 54-year-old woman was detained by police after attempting to enter the restricted ward where González is being treated. The woman, who reportedly suffers from mental health disorders, was found in possession of a kitchen knife. Her family stated they did not recognize her, and she has since been referred to a neuropsychiatric hospital.
