Huila, Colombia records 10 homicides during San Pedro festival weekend

During the San Pedro holiday weekend in the Huila department of Colombia, a total of ten people were killed in violent incidents across six municipalities. The municipalities of Palermo, Neiva, Pitalito and Timaná each reported two murders, while Saladoblanco and Santa María each recorded one.

The killings were linked to social intolerance, alcohol‑related brawls and the use of knives and firearms. Victims were young adults; several deaths occurred during public events such as the closing concert and a folkloric parade. Local police are investigating each case, collecting video evidence and witness statements to identify the perpetrators.

Authorities have called on residents to provide information and have stressed that all hypotheses remain open as investigations continue.
