Huila studies feasibility of domestic fertilizer plant

The Colombian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Huila Governor's Office have launched a feasibility study to determine the viability of establishing a domestic fertilizer production plant in the Huila department. The initiative aims to reduce the high costs currently faced by farmers due to a reliance on imported agricultural inputs.

The project is envisioned as a mixed economy society involving public, financial, and productive actors, including the Ministry of Agriculture, the Huila Government, Finagro's Risk Capital Fund, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, and representatives from the sugar cane and cocoa sectors. While the plant would initially focus on meeting the demand within Huila, the long-term goal is to expand coverage to other major agricultural regions such as Valle del Cauca, Cauca, the Coffee Axis, and the Altillanura.
