Huila Symphony Band launches musical heritage program for students

The Huila Government, through its Secretariat of Culture and the Huila Symphony Corporation, has launched a pedagogical initiative titled ‘Cuando el archivo suena’ (When the archive sounds). The project aims to preserve the department's cultural identity by connecting young students with their musical roots.

The Huila Symphony Band is recreating a historical repertoire from the late 1990s, specifically rescuing scores from an emblematic concert performed in Bogotá between 1990 and 1998. Supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, the program moves music from traditional stages directly into educational environments.

Artistic director Wilder Román and manager Arcesio Bermúdez stated that the goal is to keep traditions and the history of the band alive, teaching students about indigenous folklore and rhythms like the Sanjuanero to prevent them from being lost to modern musical structures.
