Huissen celebrates completion of Raadhuisplein redesign

The Raadhuisplein in Huissen has undergone a complete redesign to create a greener and more attractive meeting space. The municipality of Lingewaard celebrated the completion of the works on August 28.

The renovation includes a smart water system located beneath the square. This system uses specialized materials that act like a sponge, capturing rainwater from the square and surrounding roofs to store it, allow it to seep into the ground, and maintain groundwater levels. This helps sustain trees and plants during dry periods.

Additional improvements include new lighting along the walking route from the Hof van Huesse parking lot to the center, as well as new greenery featuring plants that bloom for approximately three-quarters of the year. The square remains a venue for community events, with tree placement coordinated to ensure traditional activities like ‘koningsschieten’ can continue.
