Huixquilocan Mayor Romina Contreras Launches 5,500 School Optometry Exams and Wins Top Approval Rating

Municipal president Romina Contreras announced that the DIF of Huixquilocan, together with the Fundación “Ver Bien para Aprender Mejor”, will carry out more than 5,500 free optometry examinations in over 15 schools during 2026. The initiative builds on previous efforts that have provided more than 16,000 eye exams and glasses to students, aiming to improve visual health and academic performance.

A recent survey by the polling firm Gobernarte gave Contreras a 68.8% approval rating, placing her as the highest‑rated mayor among Mexico’s metropolitan municipalities. The result marks her 27th time as the top‑rated municipal leader nationwide and 54 consecutive months as the leading mayor in the State of Mexico. Contreras pledged to maintain the municipality’s “24/7” approach to public services, health, education and security.

The combined focus on vision health and strong citizen approval highlights the administration’s emphasis on both social services and governance performance in Huixquilocan.
