Huixquilucan adopts protection protocol for journalists and rights defenders

The municipal government of Huixquilucan in the State of Mexico signed the Interinstitutional Coordination Convention on Integral Protection of Journalists and Human Rights Defenders. Mayor Romina Contreras Carrasco noted that, although the municipality has recorded zero attacks on these groups in the past 11 years, the agreement will reinforce security through coordinated prevention and response measures.

The convention establishes joint protocols for immediate emergency response, preventive actions and communication channels, with technical support from state agencies. Senator Enrique Vargas del Villar attended the signing and praised the initiative. Huixquilucan officials pledged to monitor cases, provide rapid assistance and promote a culture of protection, stating, “Sabemos que la suma de esfuerzos siempre da resultados… Estamos convencidos de que avanzaremos en este esfuerzo.”
