Huixquilucan establishes specialized police unit to combat animal cruelty

The government of Huixquilucan has established a specialized Police Attention Cell composed of members from the General Directorate of Public Security and Traffic. The unit is designed to respond to reports of animal violence in a timely, strategic, and specialized manner, while also raising public awareness regarding respect for local fauna.

Mayor Romina Contreras Carrasco stated that the initiative aims to highlight that animal abuse is not merely an isolated act of cruelty, but a potential trigger for various forms of violence within the family unit. She noted that animal abuse is often linked to criminal behaviors in social and domestic environments.

Additionally, the local Animal Care and Protection Center, ‘Huixquican’, has been conducting educational talks on responsible pet ownership in schools since 2024 as part of a broader crime prevention strategy.
