Huixquilucan receives international award for art program

The municipality of Huixquilucan has been awarded the ALMA 2026 International Prize in the ‘Promoter of Culture and Art’ category. Mayor Romina Contreras accepted the recognition, which was granted by the Association of Municipalities of Mexico (AMMAC) and the Global Leaders Alliance (ALMA).

The ‘Huixquilucan con Arte’ program, established in 2022, aims to recover public spaces and strengthen local identity through artistic interventions. The initiative includes approximately 120 monumental sculptures and 49 murals covering themes such as gender violence prevention, breast cancer awareness, environmental care, and local traditions.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Huixquilucan has received awards from these organizations for various municipal initiatives, including institutional strengthening and educational actions.
