Huixquilucan's Rosa Mística Complex provides 300,000 annual medical services
The Rosa Mística Complex in Huixquilucan has established itself as the largest municipal health system in Mexico. Mayor Romina Contreras Carrasco reported that the complex provides more than 300,000 multidisciplinary services annually.
Created to address a lack of public health institutions in the territory, the complex consists of thirteen institutions under the Municipal DIF system. These include five regional hospitals, three shelters, two addiction treatment centers, a social rehabilitation and integration center, a geriatric center, a psychology center, and a childcare facility for children with severe disabilities.
According to the mayor, the initiative has reduced the local health service deficit by more than 30 percent. Although municipal governments do not traditionally hold primary responsibility for health services, the administration implemented the complex to meet high local demand and address gaps in state and federal coverage.
