Hulu orders Ryan Coogler’s ‘The X-Files’ reboot to series

Hulu has officially greenlit a full series order for a reimagining of the iconic science-fiction franchise ‘The X-Files’. Developed by filmmaker Ryan Coogler, the project follows the successful pilot which he wrote, directed, and executive produced.

The new series will star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents. They are assigned to a long-shuttered division dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena, forming an unlikely bond in the process. Notably, the reboot will feature new characters rather than direct iterations of the original protagonists, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Ryan Coogler will serve as an executive producer alongside showrunner Jennifer Yale, original series creator Chris Carter, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian. The production is a collaboration between Proximity Media, Onyx Collective, and 20th Television. Supporting cast members include Steve Buscemi, Amy Madigan, and Ben Foster. While a release date has not been announced, the series is expected to bring the supernatural mythology to a new generation of viewers.
