Kypseli suitcase murder investigation continues

On the afternoon of 18 July 2026 a homeless person discovered a suitcase emitting a strong odor in an abandoned building on Ευελπίδων Street in the Kypseli district of Athens. Police opened the suitcase and found the decomposing body of a woman, aged around 30 years, about 1.60‑1.65 m tall, with red hair tied in a ponytail, wearing shorts and a short‑sleeved shirt. Initial forensic examination showed no obvious injuries, cuts or tattoos. The time of death was estimated at five to seven days before the find.

Authorities, including the Hellenic Police Homicide Division, are reviewing CCTV footage, tracing the suitcase’s possible route, and matching the remains against recent disappearance reports. Particular attention is given to the case of 50‑year‑old Chinese translator Yu Ting, missing since May in the nearby suburb of Artemida, although differences in clothing and DNA suggest a low likelihood of a match. DNA samples from the corpse and from personal items of missing persons have been collected, with results expected after the scheduled autopsy on 20 July. The investigation remains open to all scenarios, including homicide, accidental death, or other causes.
