Human rights and diversity initiatives reported in Argentina and El Salvador
In Mercedes, Argentina, the Penitentiary Unit No. 5 hosted a Diversity Day. The event was a coordinated effort between the facility's Literary Pavilion, the Patronato de Liberados' Pre-Release area, and the CoSaYDi health and diversity team from the Mercedes Municipal Health Secretariat. The workshop focused on community reflection, gender identity respect, inclusion tools, and access to health information within incarcerated settings.
In El Salvador, human rights organizations and family committees are campaigning for the release of political prisoners under the administration of President Nayib Bukele. Organizations such as Cristosal and COFAPPES estimate there are at least 86 political prisoners in the country. Specific cases highlighted include lawyer Ruth López, who faces ongoing detention without a scheduled hearing, and former San Salvador mayor Ernesto Muyshondt, who remains imprisoned despite previous declarations of innocence.
