Human rights and economic surveys launched in Burundi and Gabon

In Burundi, the National Independent Human Rights Commission (CNIDH) held a high-level workshop in Bujumbura to address the needs of repatriates and refugees. Commission President Mgr Martin Blaise Nyaboho presented findings from recent evaluations, highlighting critical challenges such as limited access to documentation, housing, education, healthcare, and justice. Nyaboho noted that economic and social difficulties in return communities increase risks of gender-based violence, family conflict, and exploitation.

In Gabon, the Ministry of Planning and Prospecting has begun a sensitization campaign in the Woleu-Ntem province ahead of two major upcoming studies. These include the Harmonized Survey on Household Living Conditions (EHCVM) and the experimental Gabonese Survey on Poverty Evaluation and Monitoring (EGEP). The EHCVM is part of a regional project to modernize statistics across West and Central Africa, aiming to collect reliable data on the actual living conditions of the population through household sampling.
