Human rights and medical legal disputes reported in Mexico and Colombia
In Mexico, 18-year-old Marianne Lizeth Santacruz Salazar is seeking a legal injunction to compel Issste to subrogate a private hospital surgery. The procedure is required to remove a tumor that has already caused the loss of her right eye and threatens her left eye and brain.
Her family reports that the Issste lacks the necessary specialists and operating rooms to perform the intervention. Legal experts have suggested the family approach the Judicial Discipline Tribunal if delays in the court's resolution are found to be due to judicial omissions.
In Colombia, the Defensoría del Pueblo has requested an urgent expansion of a precautionary measure regarding the Temporary Location Zone (ZUT) in Putumayo. This follows a government resolution ordering the closure of the zone, which houses ex-combatants.
The Defensoría warns that the scheduled closure poses a risk to human rights and the safety of individuals protected by provisional measures, noting that the entity has not yet been notified to participate in the humanitarian missions planned for the transition.
