Human rights commissions in Mexico open 2026 award nominations

State human rights commissions in Michoacán and Sinaloa have launched calls for nominations for their respective 2026 human rights awards.

The Michoacán State Human Rights Commission (CEDH) announced that the 15th edition of its award will recognize individuals, public institutions, academics, and civil society organizations. Notably, the commission stated that the award can be granted post-mortem, allowing families to nominate deceased activists and defenders who contributed to the protection and promotion of human rights in the state.

In Sinaloa, the CEDH has opened nominations for its State Human Rights Award, which includes a 25,000 peso recognition. The award aims to honor individuals and organizations demonstrating commitment to fundamental rights, particularly those supporting vulnerable populations and addressing inequality or injustice. Nominations for the Sinaloa award are open until November 20.
