Human Rights Ombudsman visits Sežana to address social issues

Human Rights Ombudsman Simona Drenik Bavdek visited Sežana to consult with residents regarding potential rights violations by state or local authorities. During the visit, eleven citizens sought assistance, primarily concerning social affairs, institutional procedures, and the interpretation of regulations.

Bavdek praised the Sežana municipality for its cooperation with various institutions and its proactive approach to challenges such as immigrant integration, an aging population, and youth retention. She specifically highlighted the upcoming relocation of the South Primorska Social Work Centre to a new facility in January, noting that the current location lacks adequate accessibility for persons with disabilities. This move was cited as a model of good practice.

In addition to meeting with Mayor Andrej Sila, the Ombudsman visited Sežana Hospital and discussed broader national issues, including the difficulties of placing elderly patients in care after hospital treatment. Mayor Sila emphasized the municipality's commitment to being accessible and responsive to citizens, while acknowledging the challenges of managing high volumes of inquiries.
