Human Rights Watch demands Niger reveal whereabouts of journalist Moussa Kaka

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called on Nigerien authorities to urgently disclose the location of prominent investigative journalist Moussa Kaka, who has been missing for two months.

Kaka, the director-general of Radio Télévision Saraounia and a former correspondent for Radio France Internationale (RFI), disappeared on August 31 after leaving his office in Niamey. While his family and colleagues were initially unable to obtain information regarding his status, Niger's Justice Minister, Alio Daouda, acknowledged during a United Nations review in Geneva that Kaka is being detained for an alleged “offense” and will face court proceedings. However, the minister provided no specific details regarding the charges or his current place of detention.

Kaka is a well-known figure in African investigative journalism. He previously spent over a year in prison in 2007 following accusations of links to Tuareg rebels, a case that drew significant international attention before his release in 2008.
