Human trafficking prevention initiatives launched in Paraguay and Mexico

Authorities in Paraguay and Mexico are launching initiatives to raise awareness and combat human trafficking.

In Paraguay, the Ministry of the Interior, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Plan International Paraguay, has launched the national campaign ‘No seas el motor de la trata’ (Don’t be the engine of trafficking). The initiative will run alongside the World Rally Paraguay 2026 to increase visibility of the issue. Official data shows 121 cases of human trafficking were recorded in Paraguay through July 30, with women accounting for 70% of victims and men for 30%.

In Mexico, the Ayuntamiento de Puebla presented the documentary ‘La Ruta de la Trata’ (The Trafficking Route) to mark ‘Día Naranja’ (Orange Day). Human rights defender Marilú Rasso Ibarra highlighted how criminal networks use social media to exploit vulnerable individuals. The presentation noted that Puebla serves as a zone for the recruitment and transit of victims, particularly due to its proximity to regions like Tenancingo, Tlaxcala. The documentary features victim testimonies across eight episodes available on YouTube.
