Humanitarian aid efforts launched for Venezuela earthquake victims
Humanitarian organizations and public figures are launching fundraising campaigns to support victims of the devastating earthquakes that struck La Guaira, Venezuela, on June 24. The disaster has resulted in a tragic toll, with reports indicating over 6,000 fatalities and tens of thousands of people injured or displaced from their homes.
In the United States, Chicago White Sox Charities and the family of former Major League Baseball player Ozzie Guillén have initiated an online auction. Items up for bid include a dinner with Guillén, signed memorabilia, and premium game tickets. The White Sox organization has pledged to match fan donations up to $25,000. All proceeds will be directed to the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) of the American Red Cross for earthquake relief efforts.
In Italy, the ACLI national organization has also launched an extraordinary fundraising drive. Given their long-standing presence and community ties in Venezuela, the organization aims to provide social and humanitarian interventions to the most affected areas. The funds will be distributed through established local entities to assist with reconstruction and essential services.
