Humanitarian aid trucks cross Pakistan-Afghanistan border to deliver essential supplies

More than 700 humanitarian aid trucks have crossed from Pakistan into Afghanistan through the Torkham border, providing a critical lifeline of food and essential supplies. The United Nations confirmed that 724 trucks successfully delivered cargo to families in need, despite significant logistical disruptions caused by the near-total closure of the land border between the two nations.

The border restrictions follow a series of deadly clashes and heightened security tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan that began in October 2025. These tensions have severely hindered the movement of international relief, exacerbating a growing food crisis in Afghanistan.

The World Food Programme has warned that nearly 14 million Afghans are facing acute hunger, with child malnutrition reaching critical levels. The humanitarian situation has been further strained by recent climate-related disasters, earthquakes, and the return of millions of refugees from neighboring countries.
