Humanitarian corridors book marks ten years of legal migration pathways
A new book titled ‘Corridoi Umanitari. Un’avventura ecumenica e politica’ has been released, documenting the ten-year history of humanitarian corridors in Italy and Europe. Curated by Professor Paolo Naso and published by Le Penseur, the volume explores the origins, design, and implementation of these legal pathways for asylum seekers and migrants.
Initiated in 2016 by the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy (FCEI), the Community of Sant’Egidio, and the Waldensian Table, the program provides safe and legal access for vulnerable individuals from the Mediterranean, Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative operates under EU visa regulations regarding humanitarian motives and national interest.
FCEI President Daniele Garrone emphasized the importance of expanding legal routes to prevent deaths at sea and uphold the right to seek asylum. He noted that restricting these opportunities challenges the fundamental role and identity of Europe.
