Vukovar prepares for Thompson humanitarian concert

Marko Perković Thompson is scheduled to hold a large-scale humanitarian concert in Vukovar on August 29. Local officials, including Mayor Marijan Pavliček, expect over 100,000 attendees. The event aims to raise funds for the construction of the ‘12 Croatian Policemen’ stadium and a Salesian student dormitory in Zagreb.

Due to the high volume of expected visitors, Vukovar has implemented special traffic and parking regulations from August 27 to August 30. A parking area covering 19 hectares has been prepared to accommodate approximately 7,500 vehicles. Authorities have also extended the working hours for local hospitality businesses until 4:00 AM.

The massive influx of people has caused accommodation prices in Vukovar and surrounding areas like Osijek to surge significantly, with some luxury apartments listed at extremely high rates. Some media reports suggest that travelers may find more affordable lodging options by staying across the border in Serbia, specifically in towns like Apatin and Šid.

In Germany, the singer's upcoming concert in Frankfurt has faced political scrutiny. Following requests from the CDU party, organizers reportedly indicated that controversial war-era songs, such as ‘Bojna Čavoglave’, may be excluded from the program to avoid legal or political complications.
